The quickest way to understand the place is to stay in one part of it long enough for the landmarks to become background. Here are a few good places to start.
Yaowarat

Charoen Krung

Office towers by day, restaurants and bars by night, with pockets of older Bangkok between them.

A practical, lived-in stretch of the city where transit, food and neighborhood life meet.

A useful crossroads for the river, old streets, offices, markets and a growing design scene.
